Everton have been one of the busier WSL clubs this summer with six new signings so far. Now, they've extended the contracts of two of their current playing squad.

Identical twins Sara and Karen Holmgaard, who joined the club in 2022, put pen to paper on new deals. The 25-year-olds are Denmark internationals, although only Karen was named in the national team squad for the 2023 Women's World Cup last summer.

Manager Brian Sorensen expressed his delight at the pair's extension and hopes they can put their injury problems behind them in the 2024/25 campaign. Both Sara and Karen have had spells on the sidelines through injury in the last two seasons.

Goalkeeper merry-go-round

There's been plenty of movement on the goalkeeper front over the last week with numerous clubs making signings in the position. The merry-go-round started with Aston Villa's acquisition of former Arsenal shot-stopper Sabrina D'Angelo on a free transfer following the expiration of her contract.

That then paved the way for the Gunners to finally secure Dutch international Daphne van Domselaar from Villa. The 24-year-old, who struggled with injury last term, joined the Villans in 2023 from FC Twente and is one of the most promising young goalkeepers in Europe.

Elsewhere, newly-promoted Crystal Palace completed a deal to sign Shae Yanez from relegated Bristol City. The 27-year-old joined the Robins from San Diego Wave in January.

21-year-old Brazil international Giovana Queiroz has departed Arsenal on a permanent deal after two years at the club. She signed from Barcelona in 2022, but had two loan spells at Everton and Madrid CFF.

Now, she's signed for Atletico Madrid in Liga F on a permanent deal, subject to completion of regulatory processes. They finished third in the standings last season behind champions Barcelona and rivals Real Madrid.

Palace completed their first signing of the summer earlier in the week with the addition of former Everton defender Katrina Veje. The 33-year-old departed the Toffees earlier this month following the expiry of her contract.

She spent two years on Merseyside following her arrival in 2022. Now, she's become Laura Kaminski’s first addition of the window following Palace's promotion to the top flight as they look to establish themselves as a competitive WSL team.

"I’m super, super happy to join Crystal Palace," Veje told the club website. "It’s a really good project and you can tell the club really want to invest in this women’s team."
