Goals from Mohamed Salah and Curtis Jones fired Liverpool past Chelsea and back to the top of the Premier League table on Sunday.

The Reds had been overtaken by Man City after their dramatic 2-1 win over Wolves at Molineux on Sunday afternoon, but Arne Slot's men responded brilliantly to secure all three points against an improving Chelsea outfit.

Salah had given Liverpool the lead from the penalty spot in the first half before Nicolas Jackson grabbed an equaliser in the second.

That parity wouldn't last for too long though, as Jones capped off an impressive performance with the winning goal in the 52nd minute.

Here's how X users reacted to the events at Anfield on Sunday.

A controversial incident kicked off debate on X inside the opening five minutes of the game.

Tosin Adarabioyo's rather clumsy challenge on Diogo Jota after he was caught out by a lofted through ball on the half-way line reminded many fans of the foul which saw William Saliba receive a straight red on Saturday in Arsenal's defeat to Bournemouth, however it didn't receive the same punishment. The centre-back, instead, was fortunately given a yellow card instead of a red.

As expected, Liverpool fans were incensed by the decision.

Liverpool fans weren't venting their frustrations with the referee for too long however, as in the 26th minute John Brooks gave their team a penalty.

It was the correct decision too, with Levi Colwill tripping up Curtis Jones on the right hand side of the penalty area.

Up stepped Mohamed Salah to take the resulting spot kick and, as expected, he fired it into the back of the net.

Things almost went from bad to worse for Chelsea soon after when Cody Gakpo slid home a Salah cross to the back post.

A quick VAR check showed that, luckily for the Blues, Salah was narrowly offside in the build up.

Close shave.

On the stroke of half-time, Chelsea looked set to be the architect of the own downfall once again when Robert Sanchez clattered Jones in the penalty area.

The referee initially gave a penalty kick, however after a VAR review on the side of the pitch, the decision was rightfully overturned as Sanchez just nicked the ball prior to the collision with the Liverpool midfielder.

A lucky escape for Sanchez and Chelsea...

Enzo Maresca's side came out of the traps quickly in the second half, and managed to find the back of the net within two minutes of the whistle through Nicolas Jackson.

The goal was initially ruled out for offside by the on-field officials, however a VAR check confirmed that the Blues striker had been onside when played through by Moises Caicedo.

It was a deserved goal for a Chelsea side who had been positive in their approach to the game throughout the first half too.

Unfortunately for Chelsea fans, that parity didn't last for too long.

In the 51st minute, a wonderful cross from Salah found Jones unmarked in the middle of the box, and after controlling well the Scouser poked the ball past Sanchez to make it 2-1.

Chelsea saw a lot of the ball thereafter at Anfield, but Liverpool's watertight defence remained just that - watertight.

The Reds backline didn't really give Chelsea any clear cut openings despite their territorial dominance, and were rather comfortable in holding out for all three points.
