X reacts as Crystal Palace shock Liverpool at Anfield

Crystal Palace stunned Liverpool with a surprise victory on Sunday, denying Jurgen Klopp's side the opportunity to re-claim the top spot in the Premier League table.

Eberechi Eze capitalised on a clever team manoeuvre in the early stages of the clash at Anfield for Palace, and despite the Reds pressing vigorously for the equaliser, their inefficiency in front of goal cost them dearly - with Diogo Jota, Curtis Jones, and Mohamed Salah among those who squandered chances.

Oliver Glasner's team had chances to further their lead as Jean-Philippe Mateta had one effort cleared off the line by Andy Robertson - following a Steven Gerrard-esque slip from Virgil Van Dijk - and another exceptionally saved by Alisson.

Ultimately, Eze's finish was enough for Crystal Palace to triumph with the three points lifting them above Brentford into 14th while Liverpool remain third - the onus now on Arsenal to move into pole position in the Premier League with a win over Aston Villa.

Liverpool aimed to bounce back from their midweek defeat to Atalanta, but it was Crystal Palace who began the game on the front foot, Eze immediately applying the pressure on Alisson and testing the Liverpool goalkeeper within the opening 60 seconds of the match.

The tricky number 10's goal came in the 14th minute as he neatly finished off a slick move, Tyrick Mitchell credited with the assist.

Moments later, Mateta came close to extending Palace's lead, getting the better of Alisson, only for Robertson to make a spectacular clearance to deny him.

Liverpool were thoroughly outplayed in the first 45 minutes, although they did manage to create some chances - Wataru Endo striking the ball against the crossbar, while Luis Diaz was thwarted by Dean Henderson from a difficult angle.

At the interval, Klopp decided he had seen enough off Endo and brought him off for Dominik Szoboszlai, and an injury to Conor Bradley saw the German turn to Trent Alexander-Arnold not long into the second half too.

Next, Darwin Nunez had a glorious chance to restore parity from close range but struck the ball straight at Henderson. Jota and Cody Gakpo then entered the fray but the equaliser would still not arrive.

Jota was presented with a fantastic opportunity following Szoboszlai's pass, but his attempt was denied by Nathaniel Clyne. At the opposite end of the field, Mateta seized upon Joachim Andersen's knockdown, only for Alisson to deflect the ball wide.

The glaring misses kept coming with Jones shooting wide of the target after being put through one-on-one with Henderson, and Salah thought he had levelled late on but Mitchell had other ideas.

The equaliser remained out of reach for Liverpool, and it appears that the title will also in Klopp's final season.
